Remote Working with DictaNet: HomeOffice/Terminal Server

The remote working function with DictaNet is possible using RDP connection (Remote Desktop Connection). The recording and playback will be forwarded using built-in RDP audio, the USB devices such as microphones and foot-pedals can be also used in the remote session using RDP drivers from DictaNet.

To redirect audio and USB devices, the following adjustments should be made on the client and host PC.

Adjustments on local PC

1. Download and install files

Download the following files and install them only on the home office PC/local PC (client). Please pay attention to the correct order and install as the Windows user who will use the RDP session.

If the setups were performed by another Windows user (e.g. administrator), then add a new registry entry.

Path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default\AddIns\RDPAddins
Type: String
Name: Name
Value: C:\DictaNet\_RDPAddIn\RDPAddins.Core.dll

2. Give full access to C:\DictaNet.

3. Adjust RDP audio settings

  • "Play on this computer" under "Remote audio playback"
  • "Record from this computer" under "Remote audio recording"

Adjustments on remote PC: Office PC/server

1. Only for server: activate Remote Desktop Session Host role in Server-Manager:

2. Office PC and server: activate “Allow audio recording redirection” in Local Group Policy

Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Device and Resource Redirection

3. Activate RDP Plugin in DictaNet (DictaNet versions till 2021.01.001)

Open the DictaNet settings and navigate to the "Admin" tab. Check the box "DictaNet RDP".
The option "DictaNet RDP" is only visible if the PIN code has been entered (by default "4711") and DictaNet is running in the RDP session.

4. Give full access permissions to the following folders:

  • C:\Dictanet
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Dictanet
  • Network dictation folder
  • C:\ProgramData\Nuance
  • C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Nuance

Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition

Supported versions

Dragon 13, 14 und 15

Adjusting of Roaming Profiles for Typists in Dragon Versions up to 15.4 working on the server

N,B. Not required for V15.5 or later!

1. Create an advanced network sharing using the properties of the roaming folder: Sharing->Advanced sharing...->Share this folder

2. Assign write permissions to the shared folder

3. In Dragon's administrative settings add another network folder that points to the new share:

4. The typist should then load the profile under the Display Name which corresponds to this network share.

If another user (e.g. second typist) wants to use the same profile, the steps should be repeated. There should be as many network shares as there are users using the same server profile. Typically there is one share per typist.

Correction mode

The Dragon “Correction only” mode (on the second tab of Administrative Settings) is a central setting for the whole machine.  It should therefore not be activated on servers if dictators are also working on the server.

If a typist has a headset without a microphone, a message will be displayed the first time a speech-recognized dictation is loaded that the recording source is missing.  In this case, the correction mode should be activated once for a short time, the dictation should be opened and saved by the typist, and the correction mode should then be deactivated.  For the next dictations, the message about the missing recording source will no longer be displayed.

Import

In the remote session only the manual import of dictations is supported. To do this select the removable drive corresponding to the device in RDP settings at the client and forward it to the session.
